Etymology
1. From Old Swedish fīka f, fīkon n (plural), from Old Norse fíka, fíkja; formed using the fruit suffix + -on (neutral noun-forming suffix; used in the names of fruits and berries), an archaic variation from Old Norse -in. Originally either from Old English fīc or Vulgar Latin *fīca based on the -k- found in both Old Swedish and Old Icelandic, from Latin fīcus, but effected by Middle Low German vīgen (plural).
2. Cognate to Old Danish fige, Danish figen, Icelandic fíkja, Old Saxon fīga, Middle Low German vīge, Middle High German fīga, German feige, English fig. See: Old Norse Nouns '
