Etymology

Borrowed from English scooter (“motor scooter”), from English scoot (“to move quickly, hurry away”) and the agent- or instrument-forming suffix -er. The English verb scoot is of uncertain origin, probably partly from an early Scandinavian source and possibly related to Old Norse skjóta (“to shoot, move rapidly”). See: English Nouns 'scooter', English Nouns 'scoot'.
