Etymology
From sambuco (“elder tree”), from Latin sambūcus, due to a similar 19th century liquor being flavored with elderflower. Modern sambuca, which doesn't necessarily have elderberry, started being marketed in 1971. See: Latin Nouns '
sambūcus'.
